Brain-sailing

Edward DeBono suggests that brainstorming is outdated, and brain-sailing is the way to go for new ideas.  He dispels misperceptions about creativity through understanding that there is a repeatable process in discovering new ideas.  You don’t have to have natural talent.

Creativity isn’t just linked to art or artists.  You don’t have to be a rebel.  You don’t have to be just right-brained to be creative.

There is no need for craziness or the scatter gun approach. Inhibitions depress, and intuition is only a bonus.  Both small and large jumps are needed.

Individuals can be much better at new ideas.  Intelligence is not an excuse for lack of creativity.  Brain sailing is about cutting across normal patterns to produce new ideas.

“Instead of brainstorming, I might propose the concept of “brain-sailing” to suggest a deliberate controlled process in which we change tack as we wish instead of being tossed about in a “storm”.” Reference: Serious Creativity by Edward DeBono

This is truly allowing yourself to be outside the box.  “Who said”, you need to go the path well traveled.  I believe in finding the highest potential in all things, and then finding, or creating the bridge to get you there.  All things are possible.
