Pivotal moments

On reflection, most people will have a pivotal moment in their life that changed their direction, or molded who they became.  The longer you live, the more of these pivotal moments you may notice.  Instead of going this way, I went that way, and this happened.

“For me, one of my major pivotal moments that molded my direction was being hit by a car at 16.  Imagine riding on the back of scooter at 10pm at night, on a cool winters night.  You have a blazing headache, and didn’t want to be there, but you felt it was beyond your control.  The next thing a white car, with its headlights blazing is driving straight at you.  You can’t do anything, and the next thing you know you are sprawled out under a lamp post.  No headache, but when you go to move, you realise you can’t move.  Your lower and upper leg are no longer hinged, but push up into each other at a right angle. You have a vague recollection of the back of the car just driving away.

This event turns your world upside down.  You feel like a cripple.  You loose your job.  The doctor is quiet cruel.    Days after the operation he uses you as a model to demonstrate muscular dystrophy, holding your leg up, and letting it drop to the bed.  You scream in pain, and all he does is turn to the nurse, to say “Give her a shot”.  You experience PTSD as you have nightmares of falling, and fear white cars.  After four month of rehab, you are still walking with a stick, you visit the same doctor, who leaves you in tears, because you should have another job by now.

You get angry.  You decide to take the first job you can find, and learn to walk again.  You spend every year learning something to help yourself.”

This is just one of my pivotal moments that molded who I became.  What have been YOUR pivotal moments, and how have they molded YOU?
