Influencers to your target market

What is a influencer?  Something internal or external that has an affect on a person to sway them towards or away from a particular thing.

What influences behaviour?  No matter what industry you work in, there are influencers that effect behaviours.

  • Pleasure principle – first mentioned by Freud in 1895, where it was noted that the mind tends to be drawn to pleasure and avoid pain
  • Hierarchy of needs (Maslow 1970) identifies certain needs in a certain order

Pain and Pleasure

  • Think about what you find painful – how would that apply to your market – these are pain points.
  • Think about what you find fun, enjoyable, a pleasure – how would that apply to your market – these are your doorways to your market.

Hierarchy of needs – Each level NEED is addressed in order – physiological, belonging, esteem, cognitive, aesthetic, and self-actualisation

How does this apply to you? How does it apply to your target market?

Potential doorways – How can you use these doorways?

Make it fun!
Make it a joy and a pleasure!
Make it cover basic needs of food/shelter/safety!
Make it feel inclusive!
Make your target market feel important!
Make it something to think about!
Make it beautiful!
Make it self-fulfilling!
